Amy and I went to see U2 in IMAX 3D the other night. Even if you aren't a big U2 fan, it's still a pretty good show to check out! I'd almost rather go to every concert in IMAX 3D rather than cough up $60 a ticket.

Now this is a good idea. I love Digg. It's the one site that I try to visit daily. The concept is simple. As a social site, visitors vote news stories and photos as being good or bad, so the interesting articles make it to the main page.

Take this concept, and apply it to music. Now you have TheSixtyOne.com So you like Alternative.. great.. maybe you'll like the song that other listeners have moved up the list to the #1 spot on the chart. I also love the way they have a "Pop-up Video" like button that gives some info and tid-bits about the artist while you listen.

I can hear the bandwidth at work screeching to a halt already!

Long time, No Blog

Just a quick blog to mention that Foo Fighters may be the best rock band since the Beatles. I've always been a Foo Fan..but having seen them live, you start to realize just how many great songs they have, and just how much Dave Grohl kicks ass. He was hysterical and rocked like no other. I wish I had a chance to see one of their acoustic shows, but the concert was just hard rocking great songs, withou much flash.

I saw OK Go for the first time a few years ago.. I think they were opening for They Might Be Giants in Indy. If you haven't seen their new video, or heard their new song, I'd highly recommend checking it out on you tube here.

HOW TO POOP AT WORK

We've all been there but don't like to admit it. As much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise, the WORKPOOP is inevitable. For those who hate pooping at work, the following is the Survival Guide for taking a dump at work.

CROP DUSTING:
When farting, you walk briskly around the office so the smell is not in your area and everyone else gets a whiff but doesn't know where it came from. Be careful when you do this. Do not stop until the full fart has been expelled. Walk an extra 30 feet to make sure the smell has left your pants.

FLY BY:
his is the act of scouting out a bathroom before pooping. Walk in and check for other poopers. If there are others in the bathroom, leave and come back again. Be careful not to become a FREQUENT FLYER. People may become suspicious if they catch you constantly going into the bathroom.
ESCAPEE:
This is a fart that slips out while taking a leak at the urinal or forcing a poop in a stall. This is usually accompanied by a sudden wave of embarrassment. If you release an escapee, do not acknowledge it. Pretend it did not happen. If you are standing next to the farter in the urinal, pretend you did not hear it. No one likes an escapee. It is uncomfortable for all involved. Making a joke or laughing makes both parties feel uneasy.

JAILBREAK:
When forcing a poop, several farts slip out at a machine gun pace. This is usually a side effect of diarrhea or a hangover. If this should happen, do not panic. Remain in the stall until everyone has left the bathroom to spare everyone the awkwardness of what just
occurred.

COURTESY FLUSH:
The act of flushing the toilet the instant the poop hits the water. This reduces the amount of airtime the poop has to stink up the bathroom. This can help you avoid being caught doing the WALK OF SHAME.

WALK OF SHAME:
Walking from the stall, to the sink, to the door after you have just stunk up the bathroom. This can be a very uncomfortable moment if someone walks in and busts you. As with farts, it is best to pretend that the smell does not exist. This very uncomfortable walk can be avoided with the use of the COURTESY FLUSH.

OUT OF THE CLOSET POOPER:
This is a colleague who poops at work and is damn proud of it. You will often see an Out Of The Closet Pooper enter the bathroom with a newspaper or magazine under his or her arm. Always look around the office for the Out Of The Closet Pooper before entering the bathroom.

THE POOPING FRIENDS NETWORK (P.F.N):
A group of co-workers who band together to ensure emergency pooping goes off without incident. This group can help you to monitor the whereabouts of Out Of The Closet Poopers, and identify SAFE HAVENS.

SAFE HAVENS:
A Safe Haven is a seldom-used bathroom somewhere in the building where you can least expect visitors. Try floors that are predominantly of the opposite sex. This will reduce the odds of a pooper of your sex entering the bathroom.

TURD BURGLAR:
This is someone who does not realize that you are in the stall and tries to force the door open. This is one of the most shocking and vulnerable moments that can occur when taking a poop at work. If this occurs, remain in the stall until the Turd Burglar leaves. This way you will avoid all uncomfortable eye contact.

CAMO-COUGH:
A phony cough that alerts all new entrants into the bathroom that you are in a stall is called a Camo-Cough. This can be used to cover-up a WATERMELON, or to alert potential Turd Burglars. The Camo-Cough isvery effective when used in conjunction with an ASTAIRE.

ASTAIRE:
An Astaire is a subtle toe-tap that is used to alert potential Turd Burglars that you are occupying a stall. This will all doubt that the stall is occupied. If you hear an Astaire, leave the bathroom immediately so the pooper can poop in peace.

WATERMELON:
A watermelon is a big poop that creates a loud splash when hitting the toilet water. This is also an embarrassing incident. If you feel a Watermelon coming on, create a diversion. See CAMO-COUGH.

HAVANA OMELET:
A case of diarrhea that creates a series of loud splashes in the toilet water. Often accompanied by an Escapee. Try using a Camo-Cough with an Astaire.

UNCLE TODD:
An Uncle Todd is a bathroom user who seems to linger around forever. This person could spend extended lengths of time in front of the mirror or sitting on the pot. An Uncle Todd makes it difficult to relax while on the crapper, as you should always wait to poop when the bathroom is empty. This benefits you as well as other bathroom attendees.

I've decided to make some changes. New TWiT.. Good Links.. Google still kicking ass and Interesting Conversations

There's a new TWiT out this week which I thought was one of the more interesting ones I've heard in a while. Check it out. Some of the better topics are a website called Yelp which uses social bookmarking combined with restaurant reviews and other things. Kind of an interesting use of social networking. Ron, a co-worker, also pointed me to this Web 2.0 website, http://www.tagworld.com, that is similar to del.icio.us and blogger and flickr.

After reading this article in eweek about the buying of "virtual items" and using third world slave labor to build up characters in MMORPG's in order to sell these items, a co-worker, Randy B. (named changed to protect the innocent), took it one step further and thought about starting his own Sim-Life website using slave labor. Think of the joy you could have knowing that you are causing some kid in china to jump up and down for hours a day by paying him $.25.

Google released their ZeitGeist for 2005. This shows all of the most popular searches of the year. Pretty interesting stuff.

I'll be attending CES this year for the first time. As the weekend gets closer, and the emails keep coming in regarding what will be unveiled, I'm gettin more excited. I've heard rumblings about using slingbox with your cell phone to get tv shows delivered from your home directly to you. Jason sent this link talking about the topic.

Real time language translator
Today's cooler Digg.com posts include this real time language translator (written using AJAX). Just type stuff in and it translates it on the fly to several different languages. I'm sure it's not going to be long before something like this is pocket sized. One of the side benefits of having wi-fi everywhere, along with having your own mp3's and tv shows anyplace you are, will be things like this. Imagine being anyplace in the world, but still able to communicate with everyone in a reasonable fashion. As the world gets older, it definitely gets smaller.

Also thought I'd mention that I saw a commercial the other day for an Acura car that is using voice recognition to handle all sorts of tasks. I knew it was only a matter of time until this was in use. Voice recognition is something that is becoming more and more feasible as processing power gets faster. The idea of a central computer in your car that handles everything from temperature controls, to voip communications, to being a dj and playing whatever song you want from your home pc just by asking for it, is coming soon.

In Search of the Valley trailers...

While I'm in the posting mood, thought I'd mention http://local.live.com. Once again, Microsoft is relying on someone else to do their R&D. For a company that spends more money on Research than any other company in the world, you would think they would be a little more innovative than to rely on netscape/apple/google to create something and then blatantly steal it. I'm not knocking MS too much, after all, if it weren't for them, I'd have a different career lined up. Local.live.com is part of their new "LIVE"! suite of web 2.0 knock-off stuff. Local.live is basically the web version of GoogleEarth. I know that Virtual Earth from MS has been around a long time, but it takes someone like google to actually make it cool, then microsoft realizes that they are desperately behind in the "cool factor" area and plays catch up. Local.live.com does have some nice birds-eye view functionality that google earth doesn't have yet. I'm sure in the next few years, you'll have fully rendered full 3d fly thrus from every angle in these applications. Till then, they'll both be trying to one-up each other.

While I'm in the psuedo-knocking mode of Microsoft.. I thought I'd mention that I was "selected" to beta test the webmail portion of Live.com. This site basically will replace hotmail.com at some point in the future. What's it like, you may ask? Well, take Outlook Web Access, make it slower, take away the filters and functions you already have with hotmail and Outlook, and call it Beta. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely an improvement over hotmail, but that's a bit like saying "I'd prefer to have my eyes gouged out with a cold knife instead of a hot one". I don't understand why they don't just put the code from Outlook Web Access as the front end to the hotmail mailboxes. The best part I can tell so far is that I can delete the spam, which makes up about 99.9% of my hotmail email, much quicker than I could before. I'm keeping GMail as my primary email app.

There's a new version of TWiT out.. as it's a Monday. I'm a few episodes behind, but hope to catch up this week. The latest one struck me as funny as Roger Chang knocks his employers (Gamespot). Jason Robbins and I actually got to meet Roger last week in San Francisco after winning a contest sponsored by G4. Thanks G4 for the tickets to San Fran and putting us up in the swank hotel. Ok..it's wednesday night at 7:12 PM and I'm still at work. Mostly catching up on all the diggs that I haven't gotten to read lately. If you don't already get the diggs.. you should. It makes you happy to be a geek. I was never much of a "slashdotter", but I'm loving www.digg.com. Great job Kevin and co. This post is mostly to tell you that you have to check out this video!
